What you want,
and what you get–
During Friday’s
commute the fog
obscured all,
no notion
of a lake
under the bridge
just strings
of brake lights
and headlights
connecting
through
the damp,
the freeway
blocked,
and I thought
of course it’s a wreck,
but no, someone
jumped
into the stream
of cars.
Later I heard
a guy ask
for his legs back,
he was leaving
that day,
he was ready
to move on, now,
a sea change,
a discharge,
and after
this week
I realize gravity
has more
of an effect
than I previously
acknowledged,
that is, just
about anyone
can get stuck
in a rut,
and water
never does
run uphill,
at least not
without
some help.
Again this is a wonderful poem. Lovely and intriguing. I don’t know if you’d even be interested in this, and it’s hard to have a conversation online that can’t be misinterpreted sometimes. But are you considering putting about 20 pages of your poetry into a collection to sometime, if you ever feel ready and want to give it a go, submit to a small literary press? One of those publishers who do support poetry, not self-publishing which in and of itself is a wonderful way of publishing. We may not as writers ever want to try because rejection is a reality .Grueling. And to be brutally honest, it is not a source of income, just of reaching out and sharing. I just wanted to let you know that I see that potential in your work, whether you ever want to try. Or at some point have you considered eventually doing so self-publishing. But I also love sharing as we all do here online, and that, in and of itself, is a joy. A type of publishing that is really liberating and supportive. Take care.

Thanks Sally! It’s something I’m considering but not anytime soon, with everything going on right now I’m happy to aim for a poem/sketch a day and occasional submissions to journals. I agree, wordpress has been a great way to share and get feedback!

Atmospheric and powerful. I like ( and envy) your pared back style.
