The weather report: Clouded
judgments, with a chance
of rain tonight–

Down the bank, a diagonal
line of limbs wholly traverses
the blank sky, but

in reality the trees
are twenty feet apart
it’s illusion that they touch–

convincing, as distance
makes us two-dimensional,
hence post-card memories,

hence the flat aspect of doubt.

You’re expressing something very profound here.

It casts–should I say it?–doubt on that whole idea that hindsight is 20/20. It may be, but it apparently has no depth perception. Brilliant.

As I re-read this I especially like the double-meaning of “it’s illusion that they touch”. That’s a gem there, C!

Thanks, Jeff! To be perfectly honest, I didn’t even realize the double meaning until you mentioned it… a poet and didn’t even know it!
