For Lent
she said the Copts
go vegan
and what do I do?
As if I’d give anything up
that needed giving up
I might opt to do
rather than eschew
might give up
giving up
might sharpen
these long teeth
might really sink
them into
something
might hold on
for once
might become
resolute
with all
the tenacity
of a bad bad habit
So sure of your delicate lines and breaks, but each as powerful as a pry bar. And word choice stuns often with layers of meaning, with sound, with textured linguistic and concrete detail. You seem effortlessly in control of form. Each poem on the page has the fluid power of a strong current the swimmer must go with, enjoying the ride, knowing the place of arriving will be somewhere. There’s a beautiful, connected, complete book here already. Someone set the type.
